SEMINARS ON CLIMATE CHANGE AND WINE IN BELGIUM AND HOLLAND - 2007-09-28

Almost 100 wine professionals participated in the climate change seminar organized by Winewise and conducted by Pancho Campo in Antwerp, Belgium on September the 10th. In Holland a selected group of almost 50 wine professionals participated in the seminar on the impacts of climate change in the wine industry organized by Frank Smulder MW on September the 11th.


A full day seminar on the impacts of climate change in the wine industry was organized by Wine Wise, a Belgium based wine education company and APP for the WSET. The seminar took place in Antwerp on September the 10th and was conducted by Pancho Campo. The eight hour seminar covered topics such as the origin and scientific basis of climate change but focused on the impacts of climate change in the wine industry. Other topics explained by Pancho were the impacts of the adaptation and mitigation to the new climate scenario that the industry has already started to implement.

The seminar was attended by wine professionals from different parts of Belgium, including sommeliers, wine importers and distributors, journalists, educators and students. At the end of the seminar Pancho conducted a guided tasting of 12 wines that show how climate change could impact them and different varieties that are showing great potential of adaptation to tougher and more extreme weather conditions.
