Amorim, the world largest producer of natural cork for the wine industry has confirmed its support towards the II World Meeting on Climate Change and Wine as part of their initiative to preserve the environment and fight climate change. Dating from 1870, the year in which it was founded, the Amorim Group is today one of the biggest, most entrepreneurial and dynamic multinationals of Portuguese origin. Its portfolio demonstrates leadership in the cork industry as well as a vast range of activities: rural tourism, textiles, natural products of excellence and various other initiatives undergoing constant development. The cork oak ecosystem is acknowledged today as a fundamental tool for combating climate change. As far as Portugal is concerned, it is estimated that the Portuguese cork forest is responsible for the sequestration of approximately 5 tons of carbon dioxide per year. Therefore, protecting the cork oak forest and preserving its biodiversity has become  one of AMORIM´s main goals.
