THE CLIMATE PROJECT PRESENTED BY PANCHO CAMPO TO 600 STUDENTS OF 45 NATIONALITIES - 2008-03-10

Katya Berger, a Year 11 student at Aloha College, attended the presentation of The Climate Project Spain at the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos of Marbella in December of last year. She was so affected by the presentation given by Pancho Campo that she was determined to bring the message to her own school. So she wrote a letter to the Headmaster of the Senior School and Pancho Campo himself asking for a presentation to all the children at Aloha College. In this letter she said “If I could change one thing for the world, it would be to solve this crisis. Our ancestors have worked so hard for their children and grandchildren to have the best life they could have. Our parents have worked so hard to bring to us a life with security, comfort, education and opportunity. I would like to continue this cycle and make an effort for when I hopefully have children one day. They deserve a clean planet just as much as we do.”

Pancho Campo gave two presentations to more than 600 children of over 45 nationaltiies at Aloha College on March 7th. The goal was to provide students with information about the current state of the environment and what they can do to make a difference. Climate change is one of the most critical global challenges of our time. Recent events have emphatically demonstrated our growing vulnerability to climate change. Climate change impacts will range from affecting agriculture- further endangering food security-, sea-level rise and the accelerated erosion of coastal zones, increasing intensity of natural disasters, species extinction and the spread of vector-borne diseases.

The children learned that a natural blanket of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere keeps the planet warm enough for life as we know it – at a comfortable 15°C today. Human-caused emissions of greenhouse gases have made the blanket thicker, trapping heat and leading to a global warming. Fossil fuels are the single biggest source of human-generated greenhouse gas emissions.

Pancho had the children totally captivated for nearly an hour in each presentation. He talked about the three things that we must all remember – the three R’s – REDUCE, RECYCLE, REUSE. His message to the children was very clear – “When you start making your own money you must find a way to do it that doesn’t harm our Planet!”

Children are the future, and what they learn now is crucial to the future of our Planet – “We do not inherit the Earth from our parents, we borrow it from our children.”

Spread the word and apply for a presentation in your city, school, university or oraganization – you can make a difference.
